Lost Anchor
Lost Anchor is situated along the left (northwest) wall of the Caracasbaai in front of the cliff-face. A large anchor chain drops into the depths to well beyond safe recreational diving standards. DO NOT FOLLOW IT. Caracasbaai is extremely deep; at the entrance of the bay depths reach 250 m (830 ft). It was created after a rocky landslide thousands of years ago, when some 375 million tons of rock slid into the ocean leaving a cavern over 150 m (500 ft) deep, 1000 m (3300 ft) wide and 5 km (3 miles) in length. A coral-covered ledge slopes to a steep wall at 6 m (20 ft), seemingly to infinity. Be very careful of your depth. A beautiful wall densely coverd with healthy corals and lush gorgonians can be explored. Look for lots of reef fish and large deep water fish.
